Resources for Researchers

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) offers two large avenues of support to researchers in women’s health. The VCU Center for Clinical and Translational Research offers a wide range of services and tools for anyone embarking on or conducting a research project through any department or school within the university. Comprehensive services include:

  • Identifying funding sources, grant writing, budget development, mentoring, mock study sections and research working groups
  • Administrative support for clinical research activities as well as support services and facilities
  • Biomedical informatics includes data resources and management, REDCap electronic data capture and i2B2 cohort discovery
  • Laboratory services, equipment, expertise and training
  • Building partnerships and collaborations for community-based research
  • Mid-Atlantic Twin Registry
  • ResearchMatch, a secure national recruitment registry

The VCU Institute for Women’s Health provides pre- and post- grant management services to women’s health researchers at VCU. The institute actively engages with early stage women’s health scholars providing mentorship, training and infrastructure support to submit research grants. While the role of the Institute is based on the needs of each PI and grant submission requirements, services include:

  • Grant identification
  • Proposal development and tracking
  • Grant writing services (through the Center on Clinical and Translation Research)
  • Medical science editing (through the Center on Clinical and Translation Research)
  • Budget preparation and development
  • Support with online and paper submission formats, including application packaging
  • Collection of bio sketches, letters of support and signatures
  • Correspondence with Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP)
  • Grant submission by deadline
  • Post award fiscal administration
  • Application, planning and management
